London Marathon.. Well done to our Islwyn runners who completed the marathon this weekend. We had some fabulous times and numerous PB's set. Check out our results page.
Trophies for the ladies..
A successfull weekend for our ladies with Ruth gaining 3rd V45 at the Friskney 1/2 marathon, Yorkshire & Clare Williams 3rd lady overall at her debut ultra marathon at Pendine sands. Well done ladies.
Club Captains... IRC welcomes Jonathan Davies iwho has kindly accepted the Islwyn mens captain role. Jonathan will be responsible for tasks such as arranging mens teams for events such as the Leisure Centre Leagues & the Rack Raid A team. We hope this will contribute to the ongoing success of our club.

Annual Christmas run...We will be meeting at the Half Way House, Wylie on 27th December @ 2pm for our annual post Christmas run down the Sirhowy Walk.

Well done Angela..who came 7th female overall & 1st in category in the Cyprus 4 day challenge in which she raced 6k time trial, 11k/200ft hill climb, 1/2 marathon & 10k.
LCL Pontypool Park.. Fantastic turn out today for the toughest and muddiest (so far) xc in the LCL. Well done to Claire & Helen who ran their 1st XC and our ladies team who are now top of the leader board. Well done all (and to Glyn who ran in trainers!!)..
Congratulations to Rob Davies Jnr..on being the 1st Islwyn member to reach 50 Park runs ...and an Adidas t-shirt to prove it!! Well done Rob.
Well done Haydn.. who was surprised after receiving an e-mail from Welsh Athletics to learn that he'd won silver for the MV40 category in the Cardiff 1/2 marathon welsh champs. Haydn was invited to collect his medal at the presentation evening last Saturday complete with free buffet!! and a screening of the S4C coverage of the 1/2 marathon.If you missed the coverage you can view it here.

Islwyn Ladies bring prizes home...
A busy week for the ladies starting with Donna winning the F50 category at the Brecon 10 followed by Angela Jones who was 1st lady home at our Murder Mile & Maria winning the Welsh 10K championship F35 categoryat Merthyr 10K
Congratulations to Haydn, Rich, Angela & Maria who were selected to represented East Wales in the Merthyr 10K inter region championship in which Angela & Maria won silver medals for the ladies Masters team.
Well done to all who set PB's this week including Richard & Phil on a challenging undulating course at Merthyr 10K, Kelly on her 4th Rose Inn & Ruth earning a well deserved PB at Cardiff Parkrun (sorry if i've missed anyone).
Don't forget Tuesday is the last LCL road series of the year @ Bryn Bach Park 7.30pm - hope to see you all there!

Good week for medals...The week started well with a good turnout of black & white vests at the Aberdare 10K on a very warm Sunday morning. Steve came away with 4th overall & 1st V40 & Maria 5th overall female & 1st V35. Ruth & Donna came 2nd in the V45 & V50 categories.
Steve then went on to win 2nd at our Scenic 7 & Terry won 1st local MSVet and was awaredd the Ronnie Baldwin memorial shield.
Friday saw us collect a few more medals at the Self Transcendence 4miler. Despite the windy conditions and most of us running on tired legs, Islwyn came away with 2 medals - Mike Dury 5th Male & Maria 6th Female.Well done Islwyn.

Rack Raid..A great day dispite battling the rain, wind & oh steep hills! Islwyn finished 4th overall in both A & B teams.
The A team ran 2 x 3rd(Dafydd & Rob), 3 x 2nd(Rich, Mike D & Lian), 1 x 1st (Steve Thomas) & Ruth & Maria were 1st ladies home in their stages. Steve Thomas also set a new course record for his stage - well done all!! See our photos here.

London Marathon
Well done to all Islwyn runners who completed the big 26.2 mile this weekend with Rob, Stuart & Kelly running great times in their debut marathon despite the hot weather. Results here.

IRC Marathoners...
Over 2 1/2 months of hard training paid off yesterday for our Llanelli marathon training group. PB's were set by all and the ladies once again retained 5th ladies team. Keep it going guys & good luck for San Domenico 20 next weekend. Results here.
Weekend update...
A fantastic weekend for Islwyn with the final LCL XC of 2011 and 2 major 1/2 marathons; Llanelli & Bath. A successful weekend for the Islwyn ladies with Angela who once again took ladies victory at the XC and 1/2 marat hon PB's were gained for Julie, Maria, Helen & Clare. Steve,Stuart & Rob(Jnr) all gained PB's. Well done IRC. If I've missed anyone please let me know!!

Islwyn took 3rd Female overall & 2nd (WV40)Angela Jones , 2nd (MV40) Steve Thomas, 3rd (MV45) Haydn & 3rd (VM35) Maria. We also won 3rd ladies team (Angela, Maria & Claire).

Gold medals..have been awarded to Haydn Hartnell & Steve Thomas for the Welsh Inter-regional championship vet category, gained at Cardiff 10k. Well done boys!!

Weekend Update
There were 2 main events taking place this weekend, with Islwyn represented in both.
Ruth, Maria & Helen at Swansea 10K
Swansea Bay 10K -with 10 Islwyn runners, the race saw Rob Davies already running with another excuse, having yet recovered from last night Stag party, but still managed to run a great time!! Ruth also ran her best ever 10K - fantastic, not forgetting Glyn who is certainly back on form. Results here.

The Wales Marathon - with Russell representing Islwyn in the full marathon, we also had a great turnout in the 1/2 marathon.
Russell ran a PB knocking 4 minutes off his previous and Chris Lloyd also ran a PB in the 1/2 - well done!

Great North Run
Jim Dobbs once again ran another great race, knocking 3 minutes off his 1/2 marathon PB with a time of 1.35.15 and 17th in his age group.

Welsh Fell Run Summer Series
Richard Johnson completed his 1st full seasion of fell running by placing 9th overall & 4th in category for the WFRA.

Weekend race update
Well done to all Islwyn runners who ran the Cardiff 10K this weekend. We had almost ideal racing conditions with Steve Thomas, Mike Dury & Haydn representing SE Wales for the championship.
Despite Rob Davies being full up with a cold and Kelly's returning to racing after injury, both managed an excellent run.
PB's were gained by Haydn, Richard and Maria who also gained 4th in the LV35 category, but I suspect there were more, so please let me know (Andrew and Darren)! Ruth also managed to match her Aberdare 10K PB - so well done Islwyn..

Fundraising
Ben is running his very 1st marathon, so Snowdon Mountain Marathon was the obvious choice!!. Ben is running for his mum in support of Cancer Research UK. Please kindly donate here.

Well done to all who ran and supported this years event.
Islwyn took 25th place overall (3 up on last year) and placed 15th on the Mountain Leaderboard.....

It's that time of year again... This year's Christmas Party wil be held at Bryn Meadows Golf Club on SATURDAY DECEMBER 11th.
Price is £39.50p/p for a 3 course dinner (inc 1/2 bottle of wine) followed by disco & dancing until 1am.
Deposit of £20 per person required by JUNE 15TH to Coleen at the very latest.

**Race Update**
Last Sunday saw fantastic results and new PB's from Islwyn at the Llanelli 1/2 & Gloucester 20, not forgetting Julie who ran yet another grueling race at The Grizzly!!
Well done to Steve Thomas who placed 4th and Haydn Hartnell who came in 30th at Llanelli.
Not forgetting the girls at Gloucester in their 1st 20 miler race in preparation for London. Fanstastic results from all and the added bonus of taking 5th in the women's team prize!!
